A portmanteau between the words “feel ” and “millennial”, a feelenials is an individual that wants to live life with meaning. This can be seen in millennials trends that are driven by emotional, not material needs. In our opinion, feelenials isn’t necessarily a generation but a state of mind.

So what is a “Feelenial Employee”? Traditionally, employees have fulfilled muppet roles within an organization, where their primary function is to be as productive as possible, increasing revenue in an endless self defeating rat race. However, the new generation is growingly becoming global citizens, playing active roles in their community, and work with others to make our planet more equal, fair and sustainable. Being more aware of the world and it’s opportunities, it is no surprise that lack of job satisfaction would make them want to switch. About 60% of Millennials are currently open to a new job opportunity and are by far the generation to mostly likely switch jobs. It is a generation that doesn’t accept the saying we have to do it like this because this is how wee’ve always done it. The new generations are no longer accepting the rigid hierarchies and old ways of doings things that defined the careers of their predecessors. They know that speaking up can sometimes garner better results instead of quietly accepting the status quo. There are debates of this generation centered around whether they are entitled. However, it’s counterproductive to discuss in part because it’s unfair to ascribe a quality to an entire generation of people and besides, we’re here to stay- there is no rewind or escape button in this paradigm shift.

We believe that there is a need to remodel the corporate environment that prioritizes employee relations.Reluctance to implement these changes in an organization could be their own downfall as they might not be able to retain their employees.

Now, what can we do with this new reality? Firstly, corporations need to accept the paradigm shift that the new generation is bringing, or rather demanding changes in the workplace. We believe that there is a need to remodel the corporate environment that prioritizes employee relations. Reluctance to implement these changes in an organization could be their own downfall as they might not be able to retain their employees. Does this mean that the new generation is entitled and lazy? On the contrary, they are people who’ve mastered the art of doing what they love and making money doing it. The age of talking about work life balance is now being replaced with the integration of work and life. Millennials now look for jobs that make them happy- so when they finally find it, they are willing to work from home or even during vacations instead of just filling their 9 to 5 ́s. So how can your company make sure that it’s employees are happy? This is where Feelenials comes in, in order to implement
KHI and to keep better track of the emotional changes within the organization so that companies can make the necessary internal changes in order to keep their employees happy, and thus lead to a more successful company.
